Conference Policies

Adviser and Chaperone Policy

At the MASC/MAHS Michigan Student Leadership State Conference, schools are responsible for the supervision and actions of the student delegation that they bring - even in the digital world. It is for that purpose that our organization has set the following policy to help ensure student safety and satisfaction in the experience.

Each school is required to have one paid adviser or chaperone for the first 20 (twenty) students in your delegation.
Each additional 10 (ten) students require another adviser or chaperone. We encourage advisers or chaperones in attendance to be teachers or activity advisers of the school that they are supervising in order to maintain school standards and behavior, but this is not required.

Advisers and chaperones are invited to attend all available sessions. They will also have a direct link to MASC/MAHS staff to notify our team of poor behavior or conduct that needs to be addressed. More information on this process will be included in your schools registration packet.

All advisers and chaperones will have access to a conference session "check-in" form to gather feedback from their delegation and ensure that students are attending sessions during each block (just in case! The use of this form will be up to each individual adviser.)

We have worked hard to put together an adviser's lineup of content that will run alongside the student schedule when students are not directly with their group (as in the case of small group activities or student showcase sessions). Otherwise, advisers and chaperones are expected to be monitoring and supervising their group at all times.
Since an adviser/chaperone is responsible for the group in the case of an emergency, we ask that they adhere to the same protocol that we ask the students to model.

Dress Code and Virtual Background

Although not required in the virtual realm, we are still encouraging business professional and school spirit wear during your digital conference experience!

Our virtual program will still include our 2021 Awards Ceremony! This section of the program honors the top students, advisers and programs across the state. During this time students are HIGHLY encouraged to dress the part (because, why not!)

All student attendees will also be issued a 2021 State Conference virtual background. This background can be used throughout the conference based on individual preference. MASC/MAHS will also include information on participant computer settings, being mindful of physical surroundings and general conference policies to assist in your conference experience.
