Pay It Forward

Pay It Forward. If you've ever seen the movie, you'll know what I'm talking about. For those of you who haven't, here's a short, very general summary:

In the movie, Trevor, the main character, is enthused about the assignment given to him by his social studies teacher, Mr. Simonette, to change the world. Then, he created the movement of "pay it forward;" he would change three people's lives, and, in turn, those three people would each change three other people's lives, and the movement continues, growing exponentially. By the end of the movie, so many people's lives had been affected, starting with just one person.

As most, if not all, of you know, our neighbor school across the Menominee River, Marinette High, had a hostage crisis on Monday that made global news. A fifteen-year-old student held 25 of his fellow classmates and his teacher hostage, armed with two pistols and ammo, for nearly seven hours. He later shot himself and died Tuesday morning at 10:44 a.m..

Take Advantage

If you are reading this, then you are definitely a student leader. I know this because you take initiative. As part of your school's Honor Society or Student Government, you are a member who cares. You log on to this website and try to help your chapter or council. You, by every definition, are a student leader.

As a student leader, you have attributes that are very valuable. You may be quiet, loud, expressive, or hidden, but as far as leadership goes, you've got it handled. Most council and honor society members are balancing other hobbies too, so those of you like that have even more valuable traits. Here's a hint for college and scholarship applications your senior year- Take Advantage of your abilities!
