On a Monday night in September, the children at Penrickton Center for the Blind had a special visitor, Rosie. Rosie is big enough to carry any of our children with ease, she is a good listener; she has lots of brown hair but likes to swish her tail!
Rosie, the horse, is brought to Penrickton Center regularly to give the children the opportunity to experience horseback riding. Some of the blind, multiply handicapped children at Penrickton Center have cerebral palsy and are unable to walk. The opportunity to ride on a horse gives kids the chance to defy gravity - they are walking around without the help of a wheelchair or an adult! One of our kids, LaRon has gotten used to the presence of such a large animal and loves to ride her since he is unable to walk! We welcome all MASC & MAHS students to come to Penrickton, meet LaRon and ask him about Rosie!
A representative from Penrickton Center would be happy to come talk to your school or group, contact Janet Ames or visit our web site, www.penrickton.com. Thanks to your help and support Penrickton Center for Blind Children will be able to continue to provide the learning environment for children like LaRon!
