It almost always happens this time of year; exams are coming, the holiday buzz is still present, and Senioritis is really kicking in (even for underclassmen). But that does not mean that we can’t keep the spirit coming.
The beginning of the year is always filled with events from fundraising to Homecoming and everything in between, and the end of the year has its time when everything comes to a close and Senior events and year end dances dominant the schedule. But everyone seems to forget those long months in between and the school spirit always seems to lack during those trying months.
But don’t worry; there are plenty of ways to keep the spirit coming. Think of all the new changes that are coming; after exams semester change comes and things pick up again. With all this change it’s the perfect time to try something new.
What about a Winter Dance or a fun new event never tried? The weather tends to keep us inside so why not have a Dogdgeball tournament? Try Powder Tuff, a volleyball tournament for the guys. There are so many things to keep the spirit coming all throughout the year.
And if you really want to venture outside, try something really new. Who doesn’t like a little competition? Have a snowball fight at your school, each person has to pay to play and the winning grade gets to take the money raised and donate it to a charity of their choice, and, of course, they get bragging rights. It’s a simple event that involves everyone and makes people closer and has a cause.
These cold months offer so many possibilities to try something new, something fun that has never been done before. A fashion show consisted of only snow suits or a movie night for the entire community in your school gym.
Don’t let the middle of the year be a time that the spirit fades. Take this time as a blank slate, a time for changes. Anything you want, go ahead and venture to reach it.
Don’t stop at the administration either. Sometimes changes in the schedule can make them weary, but don’t let it. If you present your idea with a strong plan, have all the details ready and written out for them, and you have a cause, to raise money for charity or to make your school and community closer, there is no way they can refuse. And if they do, don’t be discouraged. Ask them if they have specific parts that they do not want to pass and amend those parts.
Keep the school spirit coming! Every minute of the year is valuable. Take the time to make events that are simple but fun and effective. Try something new and keep the school spirit up. Take these three simple tips and I guarantee for a fun new event to raise sprits: 1. Be Creative 2. Be Prepared 3. Have fun!
