Adviser of the Year 09 - Ashlee Schoen

Ms. Ashlee Shoen, a teacher and Student Council Adviser at Sterling Heights Senior High School was presented with a $1,000 check and a certificate of appreciation by sponsor, MEEMIC Insurance Company at a recent Warren Consolidated School Board Meeting in recognition of having received the MASSP Michigan Adviser of the Year Award.

The Michigan Adviser of the Year is an award created by the Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals (MASSP) in partnership with the Michigan Associations of Student Councils and Honor Societies (MASC/MAHS) to honor those educators who are outstanding in their advisory role with students.

Mr. Bob Shaner, Principal of Sterling Heights Senior High School addressed the school board and said, “We’re proud that Ashlee Shoen was selected by the Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals as the Adviser of the Year.  She exemplifies what makes a terrific student council adviser. The biggest challenge was keeping this a secret from her!  Earlier in the year, students were asked to weigh in by submitting nominations and our students rallied hard for Ashlee Shoen to be chosen as Adviser of the Year.”

Mr. Jim Ballard, Executive Director of the MASSP said, “We are very excited for Ms. Shoen and the entire Sterling Heights High School community. This is a great honor and it speaks to the work that Ms. Shoen is doing within her school. Obviously these students have been touched by her guidance as an adviser and we hope that translates to their own leadership growth.”

On hand to present Ms. Schoen with her award were MEEMIC Insurance Company representatives Jenny Schuessler (from the GINGRICH INSURANCE AGENCY in Macomb Township), Kristy Mitchell (from the MEEMIC Insurance Company home office in Auburn Hills), and Principal Bob Shaner of Sterling Heights Senior High School.

Jenny Schuessler said, “MEEMIC Insurance Company and the GINGRICH Insurance Agency is all about recognizing educational excellence.  It’s not every day that one of our local teachers gets this kind of good news so, of course, we were delighted to be a part of presenting this award to Ms. Schoen.”

MEEMIC Insurance Company provides personal automobile, homeowners, boat and umbrella insurance for educational employees and their immediate families in the state of Michigan.  MEEMIC is ranked among the top 10 private passenger automobile insurers in Michigan.
