Speakers for State Conference 2008

Submitted by admin on Tue, 03/18/2008 - 12:02.

In the past, the common perception of a State Conference has included various keynote speakers to convey the host school's theme and message to the students; however, we are confident that there are other-perhaps more effective-ways to inspire 1200 student leaders.

This year's state conference will revolve around the theme of "Becoming a Champion," or more importantly one movie, Emmanuel's Gift.

This film takes you on the journey of a poor and disabled man whose father abandoned him, whose village dismissed him, and whose country thought him better off dead. This is the story of Emmanuel Ofosu Yeboah, who had nothing, but gave everything and changed the perceptions of an entire nation.

Emmanuel is more than just the embodiment of a champion; Emmanuel represents all of the qualities we want students to identify with, at the state conference. This man has not only been a great inspiration for us, but he has also been the driving force behind what our conference has become.

We feel there is no speaker or speakers that would be able to deliver this message as strongly as Emmanuel himself; which is why we have decided to replace speakers with allowing students to experience Emmanuel's story through the film Emmanuel's Gift.

We truly believe Emmanuel's story will continue to change the lives of others; we hope to use this video at the 2008 State Conference to inspire others across the state of Michigan and provide an amazing experience for all in attendance.
