Class Content
Course Description: 
The Student Leadership Training Course is designed to help students develop the ability to recognize problems, plan reasonable solutions and execute plans. Students obtain experience in peer group leadership and how to conduct Council meetings through the proper use of parliamentary procedure. Students are encouraged to develop leadership skills while working on school and community problems and activities, including Spirit Week, elections, dances, and general development of student policies: attendance, curriculum, discipline, etc. At the community level these problems and activities include service drives and charitable activities. Students must go through an application process to be admitted to the class.

Syllabus: 
Grading Components Students will be graded on various leadership lessons, school activities and community service involvement. Grading categories will consist of: Participation (in-class, school events, etc.), Officer and/or Committee Chairperson Responsibilities, Tuesday meeting attendance, weekly team projects, binder checks, and any other assignments given by the Advisor. There is NO extra credit! Field Trips Because of Student Congress’ membership in the county, state and national leadership organizations, we have the unique opportunity to attend various leadership meetings, conferences and training. Students will be given ample notice of fees and transportation arrangements; however, on occasion, those students with vehicles will be asked to car pool to local events. Please see attached permission slip for this. Materials: The following materials are highly suggested, and should be only for this class: • 3 ring clear view binder (no larger than 1 ½”) • 5 section dividers: (1) meeting agendas/minutes, (2) StuCo calendar (3) ¬¬Forms 4) _______ (5) Journal • College ruled paper • Markers OR colored pencils • Scissors and tape • 1 pack of construction paper You will need your supplies EVERY DAY! NO EXCEPTIONS! Materials left in the classroom will result in point deduction(s) from the respective card marking grade. Behavioral Expectations 1. Students are expected to conduct themselves as leaders AT ALL TIMES. This means wearing SL ID card at all times, having a planner, being in dress code and conducting themselves according to the SL student Code of Conduct. 2. Students are expected to maintain at least a 2.5 GPA. Any student falling below this GPA will result in his/her not participating in school events and/or attending field trips. 3. Students leaving the classroom during class time MUST wear a StuCo hall pass ID AND report back to the classroom at least 15 mins prior to the end of the school day. 4. Any student reported as being disruptive or insubordinate to any school faculty will face penalties ranging from StuCo probation, suspension from Tuesday meetings, or any other punitive measures at the Advisor’s discretion. 5. Any student receiving a referral and/or reported to administration will lose all StuCo privileges for a set upon time determined by the Advisor and Executive Board.
