Success Story:
After graduating in May of 2001 I attended Albion college. I received a bachelor of arts in speech communication and a teaching certification in elementary education. While at Albion I was a member of Alpha Chi Omega, Order of Omega, Student Alumni Association (SAA), Mentoring Program, Mortar Board, The Sleight Leadership Academy, was a SOAR: First-Year Orientation Leader, played intramural softball and volleyball, worked in the Alumni Office for Parent Relations and was a campus tour guide for 4 years.
The leadership positions I held in Alpha Chi Omega were: VP Membership Development, VP Fraternity Relations, Webmaster. In served as the Vice President for Order of Omega.
I was the President of the SAA for 2 years and was responsible for planning Little Siblings Weekend, Family Weekend, and Homecoming.
After graduating from Albion in May of 2005 I landed a second grade teaching job at Marist Academy in Waterford, Michigan. I taught 2nd grade for a year and then moved down to first grade. I am now in my 3rd year of teaching first grade and my 4th year overall. I am currently the Student Council Advisor, Drama Club Director, Tutoring Club Moderator, Staff Social Chair, a member of the President's Advisor Council and Collaborative Planning Committee. I was the BIG (Belonging Involving Growing) Club moderator for 3 years. This past year I chaired the Green Schools Initiative Program and through much work and dedication eared the "Emerald School Award."
I attribute much of my successes and leadership skills to being apart of the MASC/MAHS family. I was a middle level JC while in high school and was a high school JC for 3 years while in college. I went back after graduation and served as a Senior Counselor for two years. I hope to return this summer (granted the many weddings I get invited to don't take over).
I currently live in downtown Rochester with friends from college. I am training for my first half-marathon and looking into Masters programs. I would love to be an administrator.
I often run into and make efforts to hang out with the people I met through MASC/MAHS. I've traveled distances to see those friends and have attended weddings, birthdays, sadly funerals, graduations, and reunions. MASC/MAHS hold a special place in my heart and when making decisions I often ask myself, "What would or how would MASC/MAHS do it?"
