Oh my, I can’t believe we’ve been back from camp for a week! Usually I am very frustrated during this week following camp… so much growth, planning, and reflection take place during that one week at Albion, and then I become frustrated when I come home, try to adjust to the “real world”, and feel the days slipping by, without anything to show for them. However, this year I’m trying to focus on the everyday component of our BE Better Everyday curriculum. Since returning from camp, I really have challenged myself and have been working on my BE goal everyday.
So what exactly is this goal that I have been working on since camp? Well, my goal for the year is to BE uncomfortable. I know, I know, it sounds kind of strange when you first hear it, but in short, it is a challenge to myself to step out of my comfort zone and take on tasks/behaviors from which I would normally turn away. Basically, whenever I have that “Ugh, this might suck, do I really have to?” thought process, I need to push myself to do it anyway. When I think back over some of my most memorable experiences, best friendships, and greatest accomplishments and changes (coming to camp my first year, U of M, being a JC, Dance Marathon, and job interviews, just to name a few…) I realize that they all began with moments of uncomfort. Yes, I had to put myself out there and that can be scary, BUT they have given me more than I could ever have imagined in return.
For those of you that have been working on your BE goals, good job, good job! And for those of you that have kind of forgot about them, its okay! …hopefully this blog will help remind you and keep you motivated! I encourage you all to check back often, and leave a comment if you have a few minutes.
I look forward to hearing from you!
