Dealing With the Changes

Submitted by jillianterry on Tue, 08/31/2010 - 10:23.

Many people (including me) have a hard time dealing with changes. The smallest change such as switching a class or even cutting someones hair causes them stress. This year on my council, we are dealing with a lot of change. We have a new Student Council Advisor. She was a past advisor at a local school, so we are very lucky to have her. She has jumped right in to help us with everything, We had homecoming mostly planned because it is 9 days after school starts, but there are so many little things that we forgot. Our new advisor has thought of everything, even things I would never have remembered. However at this point, Eboard was the only ones would had met her. Therefore, at our summer bonding, we were extremely excited to show off our new advisor. Everyone absolutely loved her.

Homecoming Ideas/Themes

Homecoming is going to start rolling around, so it is time to start thinking about it. Homecoming is all about school spirit, and getting everyone involved. Whether it is having everyone meet to decorate a float, making shirts for your grade, or attending the football game, improving school spirit is key. Some ways to improve school spirit are passing out hot chocolate (since it may be cold outside) selling food that goes along with your theme, and playing lunch time games. At my school our most popular day is our "Falcon Friday" or Class color day. Each grade gets their own color and the kids go all out in that color. We all make shirts with ou class saying on it, and we compete for who has the most spirit.

Live * Laugh * Love

Hey guys, I recently learned about a charity called the Mental Health Foundation of Western Michigan. I wanted to spread the word about this great organization. Their goal is to make everyone aware of the mental health disorders that occur in teens. Teens suffer from many mental disorders every day. These disorders can range from depression, to eating disorders, to anxiety. One in five people are suffering from a mental disorder. The sad thing is that people are afraid to get help. They are afraid of the stigma that is associated with having a disorder. However, when they do not get help the disorder progresses. This organization wants to inform students, parents, teachers, and everyone so that they can see the symptoms and prevent a disorder.
