Hello fellow student leaders!
Currently it is late summer, early fall... I don't mean to be Captain Obvious, BUT, do you know what this season means? community festivities, of course! It always seems like some town/city or other near you is having a festival around times like this, doesn't it? Is your council/chapter involved in it? Get involved! It's a great way to raise money.
Here is an example:
Kinde, MI. population: 600. has a rock that says "Bean capitol of the world in 1886" (or some year around there) and that's it. one restaurant. Every year now, Kinde holds an annual Polka Fest, and it's put on by the Friends of Kinde organization. People from all over Michigan and other states come to the small town for two days to dance to Polish music. It's a huge event.
North Huron Schools (my home!!) takes advantage of it. Every year on the Sunday of the Polka Fest, the National Honor Society and Student Council come together and put on a Polka Fest Breakfast. We advertise at the Polka tent and in the 4 businesses Kinde contains, and people come! We serve pancakes, sausage, etc... The organizations split the profit in half.
Now, how can you do it???
Get the organization that puts on the festival to donate the food, that way it is pure profit. They are always willing to help area schools, they love it! Have parents help, and lunch ladies show you around the kitchen, so you know what is going on the morning of your event. Adapt the fundraiser to your festival (decorations, food, activities, music, etc.)
It's easy, fun, and is a good way to start off the new council/chapter year by bringing everyone together. Good luck, if you have questions::: caitlin.homrich@hotmail.com and HAPPY FESTIVAL DAYS :)
